By-Laws
Name:
The official name of our organization is Mount Pleasant Teen Bible Study. It is also referred to as TBS in this and other documents.
Governance:
Trustees--The trustees will be three individuals (or married couples) appointed and approved by a majority of the TBS students. They must be 21 years old or older. Their term is for one year, but they can serve for an indefinite number of years. Their purpose is to oversee the direction of TBS, to ensure that it is in concord with its stated mission, and to pray for it on a regular basis. They are also responsible for periodically monitoring and reviewing the budget. If there are questions or problems concerning the TBS leadership or its budget, it is the task of the trustees to aid and supervise an appropriate resolution. In the event that the director is no longer able to fulfill the necessary duties, the trustees are responsible for appointing a new director.
The TBS trustees are:
Michelle Nichols (849-2819)
Christopher and Kelly Collins (813-3734)
Donald and Kathleen Ricker (881-3113)
Director- The director leads, manages, and guides TBS in all necessary areas. He also appoints an assistant director and GAP Corps members.
Assistant Director - The assistant director assists the director in leading, managing, and guiding TBS in all necessary areas.
Gap Corps - The GAP Corps assist the director and assistant director in leading, managing, and guiding TBS in all necessary areas.
What We Do:
Teen Bible Study (TBS) meets every week. The Teen Bible Study is a collection of teenagers from various schools and churches who gather together for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. TBS also sponsors other meetings, groups, events, and outreaches that meet at various times each month.
Leadership Eligibility:
TBS Director and Assistant Director
The director and assistant directors must be people who are absolutely committed to executing the mission of TBS. They must be 21 years old or over. Their character must be above reproach. They must have proven themselves to be strong, dedicated Christians in good standing. They must commit to teaching only the Holy Word of God. They must put Christ first in all that they do. The service of others must come before the service of themselves.
Leadership Policy:
TBS leaders must commit to take their roles in student’s lives seriously, protect them zealously, watch over them vigilantly, counsel them wisely, pray for them faithfully, and serve them humbly.
1. Leaders are not allowed to meet with students one-on-one.
2. TBS events must be supervised by at least two adults.
The GAP Corps
The GAP Corps is to be a cadre of young, devoted Christians who assist in the direction of TBS. These former TBS students must be over eighteen years old and must be college students or college graduates. They serve TBS by:
• Glorifying God through good works, kindness, selflessness, and giving
• Advising TBS students by welcoming, helping, and encouraging
• Praying for TBS students and the TBS group every day
Additionally the members must reach the highest standards of Christian purity and maturity.
In addition to the GAP Corps, there is also a Summer GAP Corps open to college students returning to Mount Pleasant on summer break.
Finances:
All money donated to TBS will be designated into one of two accounts.
1. The TBS Account—This money is used for TBS sponsored activities, materials, and other costs associated with continuing TBS. The spending of this money will be at the discretion of the Director unless the expense would exceed more than half of the current funds. In that case, a vote by three-fourths of TBS students would be needed. The money in this account can also be used to offset out-of-pocket expenses associated with supervising TBS activities by the Director, Assistant Director, or members of the GAP Corps. In the event that there is not enough money in the Mission Fund to meet obligations, money from the TBS account may be used.
2. The Mission Fund—This money is used to support Christian organizations, Christian missions or missionaries, charitable organizations associated with fulfilling the mission of TBS, or people associated with TBS students who are in a time of need. A three-fourths vote of TBS students is needed to distribute these funds. This money will also be used to purchase Bibles for TBS students who need them.
If donations are earmarked for a specific account, the money will be placed in that account. If no such designation is made, the money will be placed into the TBS Account. This is because while money from the TBS Account may be used to compensate for a lack of funds in the Mission Fund, money in the Mission Fund cannot be used for routine expenses from the TBS Account.
In the event that TBS dissolves, all money remaining in any account will go to Wycliffe Bible Translators.
